🍭 The Layoff Script Just Dropped ✂️

“AI Made Us Do It”

Good morning. The intern just pitched replacing himself with an AI.
We’re considering it.

Let’s dive in 👇

🍭 What’s Cookin’:

  • Crypto.com cuts 12% of staff, cites AI pivot

  • Google just turned Workspace into an agent factory

  • Microsoft is going all-in on AI + real-world systems

Crypto.com
✂️ Cuts 12% of Staff Because AI Said So

The Bite:

Crypto.com laid off approximately 180 employees, about12% of its workforce.

CEO Kris Marszalek announced the cuts on X, framing them as part of an enterprise-wide AI integration.

Most layoffs hit growth and customer relationship management teams.

The Singapore-based exchange had around 1,500 employees before the reduction.

It's the company's fourth round of layoffs in four years.

Snacks:

  • Marszalek posted: "Companies that do not make this pivot immediately will fail."

  • Crypto.com spent $70M on the ai.com domain in February 2026.

  • Cuts came three weeks after Block slashed 4,000 jobs (40% of staff), also citing AI.

  • Meta, Atlassian, and ServiceNow have all linked recent layoffs to AI integration this quarter.

  • Crypto.com just received conditional OCC approval for a federally regulated crypto trust bank.

  • Over 9,200 tech jobs globally have been explicitly tied to AI implementation in 2026 so far.

Why it Bites:

"AI made us do it" is becoming the default layoff press release.

The pattern is now unmistakable: Block, Meta, Atlassian, and now Crypto.com.
All citing AI as the reason to shrink headcount.

The question nobody in a boardroom wants to answer honestly is whether AI actually replaced those roles or whether it's providing convenient cover for cost-cutting that was coming anyway.

This is being called AI washing.

Crypto.com makes the case more interesting than most.

This is a company that dropped $70 million on a domain name and got a federal banking charter in the same quarter it fired its CRM team.

That's not a company in distress. It's choosing where to allocate resources.

And it chose tokens over people.

The real signal is that "AI pivot" is now a socially acceptable euphemism for restructuring, and nobody is pushing back.

When every CEO can point to the same narrative, individual accountability disappears.

That's the risk:

The story of AI replacing jobs becomes a blanket justification, impossible to audit.
