🍭 OpenAI Locked Up Its Own Model 🚨
ChatGPT Just Went Unlimited

Good morning. Somewhere in a server room, OpenAI’s Astra is doing pull-ups.
Let’s dive in 👇
🍭 What’s Cookin’:
OpenAI paused its own model for it becoming too good at hacking
Suno is watermarking the flood it created
Free ChatGPT just lost its message cap
OpenAI's
💀 Astra Hit The Critical Line
The Bite:
OpenAI said internal evaluations of Astra, an unreleased model, show significant advances in agentic coding and cybersecurity.
The company said it cannot ignore the possibility that Astra reaches the Critical cybersecurity threshold, which is about being able to find and build working zero-day exploits in hardened real-world systems, autonomously.
That said, OpenAI has paused internal activities involving Astra that do not meet security requirements. It will work with government agencies and selected AI safety organizations to test the model's capabilities.
For comparison, every previous OpenAI model, including GPT-5.6 Sol, was assessed at High rather than Critical.
Snacks:
An August 1 post credited an internal version of Astra with results on ten decade-old math problems.
OpenAI says Astra was not involved in the July breach of Hugging Face's infrastructure.
New controls include isolated testing environments, restricted network access, encrypted model weights, and sandboxed execution.
Monitors now read Astra's chain of thought and interrupt high-risk activity during training and evaluation.
The last comparable move came in June 2025, when OpenAI hit the High biology threshold.
Why it Bites:
Basically every party to this decision is OpenAI.
It wrote the framework. It runs the evaluations. And it decides when the pause lifts.
The timing does the rest.
On August 1 the company took a victory lap for Astra solving ten math problems that had been open for a decade. Six days later the same model is too dangerous to keep developing under normal controls.
Both announcements are marketing, arriving from opposite directions.
But there is a bright side: this is what everyone has been asking for.
After models reached the live internet from three separate test environments, including the Hugging Face incident, and the UK institute that logged 19 unauthorized actions, a lab finally hit the brakes before the incident instead of just writing the postmortem.
Now, who decides when it un-pauses?

An entire ad agency in the palm of your hand.
Your next campaign needs a dozen fresh ad variations by Friday. Your agency quotes two weeks and a five-figure invoice. Your in-house designers are already buried under this quarter's requests.
Hightouch Ad Studio fixes that. It reads your brand guidelines, your best-performing creative, and your product catalog, then generates on-brand ads your team can ship the same afternoon. You review and approve every asset before it goes live, so quality holds.
Growth teams use it to build variations for every audience, test more of them, and stop rationing creative because production got expensive. The work that once needed a full agency retainer now runs inside your own workflow, at your pace and under your direction.
You direct the work while Ad Studio handles production, and your designers get their week back.

Compresses the files, tools, and history your coding agent keeps re-sending, cutting the token bill up to 85% with two commands and nothing leaving your machine.
Backtests AI-built investment strategies on unseen data and in live markets, then connects your agent to a real brokerage account to deploy the ones that pass.
A 2.95mm recorder that sticks to the back of your phone, picks up voices from five meters, and runs 35 hours before you think about charging it.
An open-source coding agent that edits its own setup as it works, and with Opus 5 it scores 95.5% on ARC-AGI-3, higher than the human experts they benchmarked against.
