South Korean security firm Genians published a report on Kimsuky, a hacking unit under North Korea's Reconnaissance General Bureau.

The group has been running large language models offline on its own servers using open-source tools including Ollama, GPT4All, and Msty.

Genians says the tools were configured and run, not merely downloaded.

Kimsuky has used AI-generated documents in spear-phishing attacks against military, diplomatic, and academic targets.

The firm found no evidence the group has trained a model of its own.

Reuters reported that the findings could not be independently verified.

• Active traces of Cursor, an AI coding editor, sat on the same servers.
