The Bite:

Meta is testing robots for physical maintenance work inside its data centers. The machines come from Watney Robotics, Kinova, and ABB.

The robots swap network cables, restart servers, reseat hardware, and cut power to equipment.

Trials are running at Meta's Altoona, Iowa campus and its Prometheus site in New Albany, Ohio.

WIRED reported the program on August 28, based on interviews with current and former Meta workers. Meta says it still needs more skilled workers, not fewer.

• Two dual-armed Watney robots have run cabling trials at Altoona since June 2025.

• A Kinova Gen3 robotic arm handles server power-cycling at the Iowa site.

• ABB machines reseat hardware components at the Prometheus campus in Ohio.
