🍭 Meta Can't Stand An Open Relation 🔒

Anthropic Arms Claude With Agents

Good morning. Meta just pulled an “open relationship → actually we’re exclusive now” on the entire AI community.

Let’s dive in 👇

🍭 What’s Cookin’:

  • Meta goes closed with Muse Spark

  • Anthropic releases Managed Agents

  • 5 new AI tools to build and automate

Meta
🔒️ Went Closed and Called It Progress

The Bite:

Meta just launched Muse Spark.

It's the first AI model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, the unit led by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang.

The model is proprietary.

No open weights. No community downloads. No Llama-style licensing.

Muse Spark is live now on the Meta AI app and meta.ai, with rollout to WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses in the coming weeks.

A private API preview is available to select partners only.

Meta says it "hopes to open-source future versions," but gave no timeline.

Snacks:

  • Muse Spark was codenamed "Avocado" and built in 9 months after Meta tore down its entire AI stack

  • It scores 4th overall on the AI Index v4.0 benchmark (behind Gemini 3.1 Pro, GPT-5.4, and Claude Opus 4.6)

  • Leads all models on HealthBench Hard with a 42.8 score. It was trained with input from 1,000+ physicians

  • Meta's 2026 AI capex is projected at $115–135 billion, nearly double last year

  • Three interaction modes: Instant (quick answers), Thinking (multi-step reasoning), and Contemplating (multi-agent parallel reasoning)

  • Includes a Shopping mode that surfaces product ideas from creators and communities across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads

Why it Bites:

This is a strategy reversal disguised as a product launch.

Meta built its entire AI credibility around Llama's open-source ecosystem.

It had 1.2 billion downloads, over a million per day, and an army of developers building on Meta's weights for free.

That community gave Meta leverage, developer love, and a positioning argument against closed-model rivals.

Now Meta is saying: we built something worth protecting, and you can't have it.

The timing isn't subtle.

Llama 4 flopped. Developers weren't impressed.

Zuckerberg brought in Alexandr Wang, spent $14.3 billion on Scale AI, and gave him nine months to rebuild everything.

Muse Spark is what came out:
Competitive but not frontier-level, strong in health, and entirely locked down.

The real signal isn't the model.

It's that Meta now wants to be in the API-access business, charging for compute against OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google.

Except those companies never promised openness. Meta did.

The developer community that made Llama matter is now being told to wait for an open-source version that may or may not show up.

The goodwill Meta earned by being "the open one" is now an asset they're spending, not building.

Watch the developer reaction.

If the community shrugs and moves on, Meta gets away with it.
If they're loud enough, it shapes whether Muse's successor ships open or closed.

Either way, Meta just told you what it thinks its AI is worth: more than your loyalty.
