✨ Let Mythos Out Of The Cage

The Bite:

Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5.

It’s the first publicly available version of its Mythos-class model.

Fable 5 is available via the API and on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans through June 22. After that, it moves to usage credits only.

The model blocks its own responses on cybersecurity, biology, chemistry, and distillation queries, falling back to Claude Opus 4.8 instead.

Anthropic says those fallbacks trigger in fewer than 5% of sessions.

Alongside Fable, a real Mythos 5 full power is deploying to existing Project Glasswing partners with some safeguards lifted.

Both models are priced at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, double Opus 4.8.

Why it Bites:

There is an interesting part besides the release.

The model voluntarily demotes itself when the question gets uncomfortable.
That's definitely a new product category: the self-nerfing frontier model.

And the interesting part doesn’t stop there.

The 30-day mandatory data retention is not a safety feature.
It's a surveillance layer dressed in safety language.

Anthropic says it won't train on the data.
But they're now watching every conversation with their most powerful model, and every enterprise customer just agreed to it because the alternative was not having Fable at all.

But there is also a bright side: the pricing. Fable costs enough to be a flex, but not enough to be a dealbreaker.

The model that watches you is also the model that one-shots full apps and scores 90% on benchmarks nobody else has cleared.

The cage is open. The leash is expensive.

And the terms of service just got a little longer while you were reading the benchmarks.
