šŸ Dario Defies Defense Demands 🄊

Infrastructure Is The New Intelligence

In partnership with

Good morning. I opened my laptop and it asked me what I planned to accomplish today. Bold of it.

Let’s dive in šŸ‘‡

šŸ What’s Cookin’:

  • Anthropic tells the Pentagon ā€œnot like thatā€

  • Pegatron wants to build the AI backbone

  • Google drops Nano Banana 2

  • OpenAI recruits consultants to deploy agents

Anthropic
āœļø Draws A Line With The Pentagon

The Bite:

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei says his company would rather lose Pentagon business than allow its AI to be used for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons.

The dispute centers on new Department of Defense contract language requiring acceptance of ā€œany lawful useā€ of its tools.

Anthropic rejected that wording, saying it could open the door to surveillance of Americans and AI-powered weapons without meaningful guardrails.

The Pentagon has reportedly threatened to remove Anthropic from its supply chain and potentially invoke the Defense Production Act to compel cooperation.

This is no longer theoretical.

It’s a direct test of whether an AI company can say no to the state.

Snacks:

  • DoD demanded acceptance of ā€œany lawful useā€ of Claude

  • Anthropic refused over surveillance + autonomous weapons concerns

  • Pentagon threatened to offboard Anthropic as a supplier

  • Defense Production Act could compel cooperation

  • Amodei says AI isn’t reliable enough for fully autonomous weapons

Why it Bites:

On the surface, this looks like a principled stand for democratic values. And compared to most AI CEOs, Amodei has been unusually clear about risks.

But this moment is bigger than one contract.

Governments don’t pursue AI because it’s inspirational.
They pursue it because it concentrates power, intelligence, and automation at scale.

Those priorities are pro-state.
Not necessarily pro-society.

Mass surveillance is already sophisticated.

Add AI that can assemble millions of small data points into a complete profile of someone’s life, instantly, and the scale changes.

Not dramatically. Systematically.

Amodei argues today’s AI isn’t reliable enough for autonomous weapons.

That’s a safety argument. It’s also a convenient moral boundary.

Once systems become ā€œreliable enough,ā€ the debate shifts.

The real question is whether AI companies can maintain independence once their technology becomes infrastructure for national power.

This is the first serious stress test.

And we should be watching closely, and not just whether companies resist, but…

…What governments ultimately intend to build with these systems.

šŸ“¶ Pegatron Wants To Build The Network AI Actually Needs

The Bite:

Earlier this week, we said AI without strong networks is dead weight.

Pegatron seems to agree.

At MWC 2026, the hardware giant announced a push into private 5G and edge AI infrastructure, positioning itself as a builder of the backbone for what it calls…

The IQ Era.

The pitch: ultra-fast, low-latency private networks that let factories, logistics hubs, and cities run AI directly at the edge. Not just in distant cloud servers.

This isn’t consumer tech. It’s enterprise infrastructure.

And it’s for those who can afford to build their own digital highway.

Snacks:

  • Pegatron introduced AI-driven private 5G solutions

  • Focused on edge computing for factories and smart cities

  • Designed to reduce latency and cloud dependency

  • Enterprise-owned networks, not public infrastructure

  • Framed as powering the new ā€œIQ Eraā€

Why it Bites:

Pegatron is trying to move beyond being a contract manufacturer.

This is a hardware company climbing the stack into connectivity, AI orchestration, and long-term infrastructure control.

The tech is legitimate. Private 5G means faster speeds, lower latency, and tighter control over data. For industrial automation, that matters.

AI systems that rely on real-time decisions cannot wait on overloaded public networks.

But there’s a bigger shift here.

Private 5G isn’t just about performance. It’s about ownership. Your factory, your network. Your data never leaves your perimeter. Efficient. Secure. Closed.

That also means this isn’t national infrastructure.

It’s not public innovation.

It’s enterprise power. If you can’t afford it, you’re not in the ā€œIQ Era.ā€

We’re watching digital infrastructure fragment from an open internet toward controlled corporate ecosystems.

AI needs networks to work. Pegatron is offering a solution.

Just not one everyone gets to use.
