🍭 Claude Catastrophe Confirmed 🫣

AI Chaos Continues

In partnership with

Good morning. If caffeine stops working, I’m switching to raw API calls straight to the brain.

Let’s dive in 👇

🍭 What’s Cookin’:

  • Anthropic accidentally leaks its most powerful model

  • OpenAI–Disney deal quietly collapses

  • Meta’s legal losses start hitting its AI ambitions

Anthropic
🔒 Accidentally Leaked Its Most Powerful Model Ever

The Bite:

Anthropic is testing a new AI model it calls "Claude Mythos", internally branded under a new tier named "Capybara."

The model is above Opus in capability and price, and it was not announced.
It was discovered.

A misconfiguration in Anthropic's content management system left nearly 3,000 unpublished internal assets, sitting in a publicly searchable data store.

That also included a full draft launch blog.

Security researchers at Cambridge and LayerX found it.

Fortune published it. Anthropic confirmed it.

The company describes the model as "a step change" and "the most capable we've built to date," with dramatically higher scores on coding, academic reasoning, and cybersecurity.

It is currently being tested by a small group of early-access customers.
No public release date has been set.

Snacks:

  • Nearly 3,000 unpublished Anthropic assets were publicly accessible due to a CMS default setting that makes uploaded files public unless manually changed.

  • Leaked draft states: "Capybara is a new name for a new tier of model: larger and more intelligent than our Opus models."

  • The model "poses unprecedented cybersecurity risks," per the draft. Flagging its ability to find and exploit software vulnerabilities at a pace that could outrun defenders.

  • Cybersecurity stocks fell ~3% the day the story broke; one Stifel analyst called it potentially "the ultimate hacking tool"

  • Anthropic confirmed the leak was caused by "human error" and removed public access after Fortune's inquiry

  • The draft also noted the model is "very expensive to serve" and not yet ready for general release

Why it Bites:

A company building what it describes as an AI model with "unprecedented cybersecurity risks" stored the announcement of that model in an unsecured, publicly searchable folder.

Let that sit.

Anthropic has spent years positioning itself as the safety-first lab, like the adults in the room, the one outfit that reads the fine print before shipping.

And to be fair, the caution here is real: the deliberate rollout, the early-access testing, the explicit cybersecurity disclosure.

That's not theater. They're clearly worried about what they built.

But none of that careful, measured safety posture helped when the CMS defaulted to "public."

The irony isn't that Anthropic leaked their model.

The irony is that it happened by doing the most boring, mundane, non-AI thing imaginable: someone didn't change a setting.

The deeper thing worth tracking is the content of the leak.

Anthropic is describing a model that "presages a wave" of systems capable of exploiting vulnerabilities faster than defenders can react.

That's not hype.
Their own researchers found 22 Firefox bugs in a single month using Opus 4.6.

Mythos/Capybara is described as dramatically beyond that.

So, the question isn't whether this model gets released. It will.

The question is: when every major lab is racing to the same frontier, and the winner's advantage is "can find and exploit any software vulnerability at machine speed”:

Who exactly benefits from that arms race?

The answer, historically, is not the defenders.

Here’s how I use Attio to run my day.

Attio is the AI CRM with conversational AI built directly into your workspace. Every morning, Ask Attio handles my prep:

  • Surfaces insights from calls and conversations across my entire CRM
