Apple raised prices across all Macs, iPads, HomePod, Apple TV, and the Vision Pro.

The MacBook Air went from $1,099 to $1,299.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro went from $1,699 to $1,999.
The base iPad went from $349 to $449.

Apple cited an "unprecedented" surge in memory and storage demand driven by AI data center buildouts.

DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) prices rose 98% in Q1 2026, with another 58-63% increase expected this quarter according to industry tracker TrendForce.

iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods were not included, but Apple signaled more increases are possible.

Stock fell 6.15% on Thursday, the biggest single-day drop in over a year.

Why it Bites:

The hike itself isn't the story.

Apple didn't get hit by tariffs or a currency crash. It got hit by Nvidia.
Specifically, by a memory supply chain that now serves AI data centers first and everyone else second.

Micron's gross margin sits at 84.9%. A year ago it was 39%.

The company just secured $22 billion in long-term supply contracts with AI infrastructure buyers. That's not a memory market. It's a system with two tiers:

One price for the data center, another for the checkout page.

And Apple, for all its supply chain leverage, is on the wrong side of that line.

It doesn't buy memory by the exabyte. It builds laptops and tablets for people who are now paying more because the RAM that used to go into a MacBook Air goes into a rack somewhere they'll never visit.

The risk isn't this price hike. It's the next one.

iPhone is expected to follow in September. Analysts project increases up to $200 on Pro models. IDC is forecasting the smartphone market's biggest annual decline ever.

And Micron says supply won't catch demand until 2028 at the earliest.

The AI boom has been sold as a productivity revolution.
