The 423-page study tracks AI model performance, investment, adoption, workforce impact, and public sentiment.

It finds that generative AI reached 53% global population adoption in three years.
That’s faster than the personal computer or the internet.

China has nearly closed the performance gap with the US, trailing by just 2.7 points on the Arena benchmark.

AI coding performance on SWE-bench Verified jumped from 60% to near 100% in a single year.

US private AI investment reached $285.9 billion in 2025.
Which is over 23 times China's $12.4 billion.

AI data centers worldwide now draw 29.6 gigawatts.
Enough to power the entire state of New York at peak demand.

• Organizational AI adoption hit 88%. Four in five university students now use generative AI.

• The Foundation Model Transparency Index dropped from 58 to 40, and the most powerful models are the least transparent.

• Documented AI incidents rose to 362, up from 233 in 2024.

• Employment for software developers aged 22–25 has fallen nearly 20% since 2022.

• The US ranks 24th globally in population-level AI adoption at 28.3%. Singapore leads at 61%.

• The number of AI researchers moving to the US dropped 89% since 2017, with an 80% decline in the last year alone.

Why it Bites:

The headline is adoption speed, but the real finding is a competence inversion.

Although AI can now ace PhD-level questions and solve 97% of math problems, the benchmarks designed to measure it are breaking faster than they can be replaced.

The models are outrunning the tests.

Meanwhile, the transparency index is cratering. The same companies building the most capable models are disclosing the least about how those models work.

More power, less visibility. That's a structural shift.
A shift in who actually gets to understand what AI does.

And that talent stat alarms anyone who thinks the US wins this race on autopilot.

An 80% drop in a single year of AI researchers moving to the US isn't a blip.

It's a signal that the ecosystem that built the lead is quietly eroding from the inside.
